| It's that time of year again! In an attempt to manage the requests I get for family sessions when my weekends are all but consumed, I've finally found a date that will work to run a marathon of mini sessions!
Sunday, November 1st at a Italian style property in East Grand Rapids! We'll start the sessions at 10am with the last session starting at 4:30pm.
This will be an outside session so please dress appropriately (boots and scarves work well with the Holiday theme)! The fee for this session is $200 and includes 40 custom holiday cards with envelopes (each additional is $3/card) OR an 11x14 with one digital file to make your own. Each is a $120 value. For those wishing to have the holiday cards printed, you are invited to schedule an appointment at the studio on Thursday, November 5th or Friday, November 6th to look through my BRAND NEW couture card line and choose your style, text, font, and colors! We have Hanukkah cards too.. We will be scheduling these appointments every 1/2 hour starting at 9:30am and will go as late as we need to go. It will be necessary to have your order placed by the end of the day Friday to ensure delivery of the cards by the beginning of the second week of December.
With only a total of 14 sessions on Sunday (11/1) - please contact admin@jenkrollphotography.com and my husband and occasional secretary, Jay Kroll, will reserve a spot for you and your family and provide you with location details so you don't miss out on this rare opportunity! These will be the ONLY times I will be doing family sessions BEFORE Christmas. Tell your friends and neighbors! As an added incentive, if you refer 3 families, you will receive an extra 20 cards! :) The season is all about giving!
As another added bonus -- the infamous yellow couch will be making a comeback! This little item is a hot commodity...
Here's a glimpse of a session I did a couple weeks ago in 35 degree weather! These kids were such troopers!!

| I'm skipping over A LOT of events in posting this, so I ask now for your patience as I am editing like a crazy woman right now! :) I wanted to get this great day in Grand Rapids posted before it became old news... I know I'm still a few days behind, but what can I say... that's why I'm not an AP photog!
A few pre-ceremony photos from the VIP (sponsors/artists) area...
I wonder if he even imagined at this point that his life was about to take a slightly "greener" path...
-The start of the Public Awards Ceremony-
Mr. Conductor (aka David Lockington of the Grand Rapids Symphony). Our boys are huge fans. HUGE. Super nice guy too. They played a piece that he wrote as a tribute to ArtPrize... we heard it performed live last week, simply stellar. I hope they make it available for purchase.
Mayor George Heartwell... Love his speech (I just happen to have the transcript)... I echo it: "I’m Mayor George Heartwell – and I can’t begin to share the thoughts that our city – its people – have about the experience of this experiment. No one has seen our streets so filled with people. We have been honored and entertained and enthralled as we watched in awe as artists fit small tiles onto walls that became mosaics – as paint brushes transformed fences into giant murals – and look at our at our river.
Rick DeVos – thank you. For your idea, your courage and your love for YOUR city."
The incredible dance team, blue13 (think Slumdog Millionare). So beautiful.
I hear this is what my boys looked like too... engrossed in the art of it all.
Christina Keller and Lorissa MacAllister from Cascade Engineering present the Sustainable Art Award to the motion picture water wheel that was on display at the Ford Museum.
And a surprise award to Young Kim (Salt & Earth) from the UICA... well deserved.
The Bucket Boys from Chicago
Mark Murray, the President of Meijer, who thanked all the sponsors. :)
Then my favorite part of the ceremony, the New Century Shadow Dancers. It's hard to explain the impact of these dancers from the photos... I was shooting from the back of the room. A very large room. These figures were anywhere from 10 feet to 30+ feet tall. It was kind of like sitting on the stage during The Nutcracker. So amazing.
This will look familiar to anyone who has so much as driven by downtown GR from the expressway. This is our "Blue Bridge" with the piece of art title, The Furniture City Sets the Table for the World of Art. They took 8th place.
And one of our city landmarks, The Caulder (also the logo of ArtPrize placed on it's side)
Ethan called this one before they were finished!
Betsy DeVos who told of the impact ArtPrize has had in our schools... special programs to coincide with ArtPrize, as well as a future commitment to continue to develop more art programs. Yay!!! We've seen a bit of a change in both our boys. Ethan seems much more excited about art and loved looking and talking about all of it -- this is huge for a kid who usually just likes to run. Carter seems to have connected most with the symphony and it's music. He now wants to learn how to play the violin. Hmm.
And the final announcement...
The top five...
My favorite won!! Ran Ortner who was the artist behind Open Water no. 24 was such a graceful winner... (I would love to see the other 23 paintings)
Then he was swarmed by the media! I got in on the action, only because my camera bag was hiding behind the logo board he was up against! Doh! Hope he wasn't claustrophobic.
For all the winners, you can visit the ArtPrize website. Next up... what has been deemed "The Swankiest Party Grand Rapids Has Ever Seen," or better known as the Awards Gala! | | |
